Dead until Dark is the first book in the Southern Vampire Mysteries series. Ever since vampires “came out of the coffin” as they jokingly refer to it, Sookie has been waiting for a real live (or dead) vampire to walk into her bar.
She is delighted when Bill shows up. He is tall, dark, and handsome and Sookie can’t hear a word he’s thinking. Sookie believes her mind reading is a disability. The bar patrons where she is a cocktail waitress just think she’s crazy. Bill is exactly the kind of guy she has been waiting for, but he has a bad reputation.
Sookie’s coworker turns up dead after Bill comes to town and now she’s worried she might be next. Dead until Dark is a great start to one of the best vampire series. It has an addicting combination of dark humor, terror, romance and mystery.

I just wanted to say that this was a great read. I laughed, I teared up, and I got indignant. But mostly, I laughed…that heroine is FUNNY! My kind of sense of humour.
