Part of the Wings in the Night series, this book picks up after the story of Dante and Morgan. Maxine (Mad Maxie) Stuart is a young private investigator searching for two missing girls in the idyllic town of Endover, New Hampshire. Something is very wrong with this town. An oppressive feeling of evil enslaves the town’s inhabitants making them virtual zombies. Max’s past experience with the undead has her thinking a powerful vampire is responsible. Her partner Stormy, and former cop Lou Malone come with her to search for the missing girls. Max and Lou’s desire for each other can no longer be denied and Max will do anything she can to make him hers.
Stormy is a experiencing some kind of mental disturbance and is seeing another woman’s memories. She is somehow linked to the vampire controlling the town and he will do anything to again possess his reincarnated true love who just might be Stormy. You don’t necessarily have to read these books in order (I didn’t) but it will probably make more sense if you do. One frustration is trying to figure out in exactly what order these books should be read even after visitng the author’s website!
