Part of the Wings in the Night series. This is the story of Sarafina which takes place after the story of Dante and Morgan. Sarafina is Dante’s great-great-something aunt who turned him into a vampire. This was part of the revenge and curse she placed on her sister. Sarafina is a beautiful gypsy woman who was a revered wise woman in her tribe. Her sister was jealous of her beauty, wealth, and psychic gifts. To get rid of Sarafina she turns her over to a vampire who knows that Sarafina is one of The Chosen. The Chosen are the only humans who can be turned into vampires successfully. Watching all of this happen, like a ghost in her mind, is U.S. Army Colonel Willem Stone.
Willem and Sarafina have an unusual psychic connection transcending time and linked by pain. He must helplessly watch as this mysterious woman of his dreams is betrayed and turned. His link to her helps him mentally escape hellish torture by his middle eastern captors. These two lovers connect in the real world when Willem needs her help rescuing the child of a vampire he has been guarding.
But Sarafina is a much harder woman now. Everyone she loves has betrayed or left her and she’s not sure if she wants to give Willem the chance to do the same. This book revisits many of the same characters from previous books weaving it into the overall story of these interconnected vampires and humans.
