This is the second book in Drake’s vampire series. Jade MacGregor, a travel writer who lives in New Orleans, is haunted by her narrow escape from a vicious vampire attack a year ago. While traveling in Scotland, she went on a graveyard tour and several of her companions were slaughtered. Disturbingly, other survivors from the attack are now turning up dead in gruesome and unusual ways. She thought she had put the trauma behing her, but now Jade has been dreaming about the mysterious golden-eyed stranger who rescued her in Scotland.

Lucian, King of the Vampires, is the stranger who rescued Jade. He knows that Jade is in danger now from the same vampires who attacked her in Scotland. He is drawn to her but she is a liability that could be used by his enemies to destroy him.

This second book in the series is good, but very gory. Drake injects more horror into this story than the first book. She also brings back Maggie, Sean, and Jack while telling the background story of the dangerous and seductive Lucian.
