Deep Midnight is the third in Shannon Drake’s vampire series. Venice, Italy is a city of mystery especially during Carnevale, as Jordan Riley discovers. She is an American book critic who witnesses a shocking attack during a masquerade ball. The hostess of the masquerade, Contessa della Trieste, tries to assure Jordan that what she saw was simply a macabre entertainment for the crowd. Jordan is convinced that it was real and the only person who believes her is Ragnor Wulfson.

Ragnor is a 1,000 year old vampire and a former Viking. The Contessa is an old lover and he knows the kind of trouble she is capable of. Ragnor also knows that Jordan is now in danger. Ragnor and Jordan are drawn together to hunt the evil that is stalking Jordan through the dark streets of Venice. Fear, danger, and attraction prove to be an irresistible combination for these two.

Venice is the perfect background for Drake’s dark, suspenseful novel. The plot is a bit far-fetched but if you like Shannon Drake’s previous novels, this one will appeal as well.
