The Awakening is fifth in Drake’s vampire series. Megan and Finn are a married couple who are having problems, but it’s a little unclear exactly what those problems are. The couple goes to Salem, Massachusetts and become embroiled in a satanist plot to raise a demon. Wiccans are thrown in to the story for good measure, since it’s Salem after all. There is also an “evil” fog that is stalking Megan and Finn.
Drake’s series seems to be (unsuccessfully) morphing from paranormal romance into horror. There is less emphasis on the relationship and more on the gory, scary, evil, etc parts of the story. The changes in her series seems to have split readers into two groups, and you will probably either love this book or hate it.
