The Reluctant Miss Van Helsing is a funny little story of a young woman torn between duty towards her family and her love for a vampire. The story takes place in regency London where our heroine, Ethel “Jane” Van Helsing, is the only daughter born to the notorious vampire hunter family. She is a terrible disappointment to her father and brothers because she has yet to bring herself to slay a vampire. The sight of blood makes her queasy and she hates spiders and spooky graveyards.

Her father has given her one last chance to redeem herself by slaying the vampire Dracul, an evil murderer of innocents. The Van Helsings believe that Asher the Earl of Wolverton, is Dracul. The stunningly handsome Asher is the master vampire of London, but he is not the infamous Dracul. Bumbling Jane sets out to snare the vampire but ends up caught in a trap of her own making. Asher doesn’t want to be caught but there is something intriguing and irresistible about this plain Jane that just might prove to be the end of him.

The Remarkable Miss Van Helsing is another lighthearted fantasy from Minda Webber. This novel picks up where The Remarkable Miss Frankenstein novel left off. Jane is a goofy, quirky girl who never gives up on her man. Jane never takes herself too seriously and has the courage to stand up to her family and follow her heart. Webber’s sense of humor and love of the absurd comes through in the over-the-top, groan inducing puns. This novel is a clever, action packed story and that you won’t want to put down until the last page is turned.
