If you haven’t read this book yet you definitely should pick it up. The cover art is awesome and was what attracted me to the book in the first place. The book has had a swift success and the publisher is already on its third printing shortly after the book’s debut. Moon Called is the beginning of a new paranormal series by Patricia Briggs featuring Mercedes Thompson. Mercy is a VW mechanic and a coyote shapeshifter who was raised by werewolves. She lives in the Tri-Cities area of Washington state and her neighbor is the local werewolf pack leader. Her world looks normal but it’s becoming harder in the age of technology for creatures of the Otherworld to stay hidden.
Mercy lives a pretty regular life except her friends are trolls, gremlins, vampires, and werewolves. Mercy becomes wrapped up in werewolf politics when a homeless teen shows up at her shop looking for work. She figures out that he is a new werewolf that hasn’t gotten control of himself yet. Someone dangerous is looking for for the boy and Mercy decides to call on the sexy alpha werewolf Adam to help. Things quickly begin to spiral out of control stirring up deadly conflicts between the werewolf packs and local vampires. Not to mention an old boyfriend stirring up unwanted memories and feelings. This modern paranormal fantasy is a must read. Patricia Briggs creates a richly imagined world that is very realistic. It’s definitely the best book I’ve read in a long time. You can click here to read an excerpt of the first chapter.
The second book in the series will be called Blood Bound and is expected to be released in February 2007. Daniel dos Santos did the artwork for Moon Called and he will also do the cover for Blood Bound. Two more books will follow for a total of four in the series.

I loved the book because I’m not a vampire fan, but like the idea of
werewolves and shapeshifters and all the other creatures of the fey turning up in this story. I pushed the book at my store and we sold out of it several times. Can’t wait for the sequel, Patricia! Keep up the great
work.
