Vamps and the City is the follow up to Spark’s 2005 hit, How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire. Darcy Newhart’s whole life changed the night she strode into a New York City vampire bar. The television news journalist was there with her cameraman trying to get a story about the young vamp wannabes. Darcy got way more than she bargained for and since that night four years ago she has been trapped in the vampire world. She badly misses her family in San Diego and her old TV news job. A new job at DVN, Digital Vampire Network, seems to fit the bill.

Darcy is hired to direct a reality show called The Sexiest Man on Earth. Her boss wants a major twist in it so she adds some live contestants to the mix. But, she has to make sure a human doesn’t win so that she doesn’t get fired. Unbeknownst to Darcy one of her super-sexy contestants is actually a CIA vampire slayer. It’s lust at first sight for Austin Erickson; the first time he saw Darcy on a stakeout of DVN he was smitten. What was a nice girl like her doing hanging out with vampires? She definitely didn’t look (or feel) like the evil undead to him. Austin reminds Darcy of all the things she can no longer have like sunshine and the beach but she can’t resist his warmth and allure. Can a relationship between them work or will Austin have to sell his soul for an eternity of hot sex?

Vamps and the City is a clever, funny tale of romance and reality TV. Characters from the previous book make an appearance including Shanna and Roman, along with the quirky ladies of his former harem. The issues between Darcy and Austin seem to be largely in their minds and the ending seems a little too neat and tidy. Regardless, this book is a great way to spend an entertaining few hours.
