The Turning is the beginning of a new vampire trilogy by Jennifer Armintrout. Dr. Carrie Ames is attacked in the hospital morgue by a vampire. Now she is one as well which explains all her weird symptoms while recovering from the attack. When she finally realizes the truth about what’s happened she reaches out for help online. Just her luck that a vampire slayer answers her call.
Sexy Nathan Grant makes her an offer she can’t refuse. Join The Movement or die. The Movement is an organization of vampires that hunt and kills the evil vamps of the world. If you’re not with them, you’re against them. Well, no one is going to tell Carrie what to do and she wants some answers. Nathan won’t enlighten her so the only way to get them is from her sire Cyrus. Cryus is already under an order of execution from the Movement, Nathan was the one trying to kill him when he ended up in the ER.
The blood tie between sire and fledgling is strong but is it the only thing drawing Carrie to Cyrus? She is drawn to his sensuality despite his cruel nature. He is bent on turning her into a killer while Nathan is determined to see them both dead. Only problem is she’s attracted to both of them. She has to find a way out of this sticky situation before her new immortal life is cut very short.
Armintrout’s characters are interesting because they are multi-layered. They aren’t just black and white, good and evil. Cyrus is this cold blooded killer but he has a deep desire to be loved and to please his father. Dhalia the witch tries to kill Carrie but they can sit with each other and have a polite conversation. Also Nathan is a vampire who is a vampire killer but it all seems to work well in the story. The second book in the trilogy Possession will be out in early 2007.

I really liked this book. I understood it completely, even though i am 14. I was kind of scared of cyrus’s actions, when carrie was living with him. When he died I was like” finally!”. I can’t wait till the next book comes out because I’m gonna read it.

I absolutely loved this book; I have never read a book quite like it. I literally couldn’t put it down; I kept running the story over and over in my head, until I could ready it again. I can’t wait for the second book Possession to come out, if only it was out now. The characters were so different and unique; they drew me in to this book. This is one of those addicting books you just can’t put down.

I really loved this book. The story is so well written and I literraly couldn`t put this thing down. Had my nose in it till I was finished reading. I think I finished it in 3 days tops. The characters are complexe and they all have a story of their own, no one is left out. I really like that about this novel. It`s not boring either, there`s always something going on to keep you interested in finding out what`s coming next! I can`t wait for the next ones! All excited!

When I bought this book, it was the cover that drew me to it. I have loved vampire books and movies since I was little. This book was, by far, one of the best vampire stories I have ever read. Even better than Ann Rice, and that, is an accomplishment. I applaud Jennifer Armintrout for being an excellent author and I cannot wait for the sequel to come out in February.

This book wasn’t completely what I expected out of teh vampire genre, we went back to the whole vampire’s and feral face, when everyone knows that no vampire wuld be able to pass for human if they went all grr every time they felt extreme emotions or pain in public, but it was good, I finished it in like…six hours? that or less, can’t remeber, but I fell in love with Nathan as soon as Cassie said sex walking, and holy hormones batman…my new saying.

I loved this book! I couldnt put it down and i really liked all of the characters. This book is refreshing to read even though you only read it from the heroine’s perspective. I think this keeps Nathan’s feelings a mystery which will help in the other books to come.

This book has turned me into a BIG reader, I’ve been waiting for the third book for months now and i’ve almost cried everytime i go to the bookstore and ask if they have it! Why do these American sites tease me with there earlier releases? And when will it be released in Australia?
September 9th, 2007 at 5:14 pm
Excellent question Bellatrix. It’s so hard to find out when books are released in Australia. Just doing a Google search for Australian book stores online I found this one that sells it: http://www.andrewsbooks.com/
I also found this web page as a resource for online bookstores in Australia: http://sufface.net/links/online-bookstores/online-books-oz.shtml
Hope that helps, good luck!

I have read all the books up to this point and I am completely satisifed with were Jennifer Armintrout is going with the series. I just hope that this next one won’t be the last. I’m truely amazed by how many kids are actually getting a hold of the book and allowed to read it. I wouldn’t let my kid read something that has the type of material in it. It’s not something kids should be reading. Although most would consider myself a kid but I’m just 20 years old. I love Cyrus, both sides of him. Vampire or mortal. I did however feel bad for Mouse though. I really cried at that part of the book. But I’m not going to go into that. Don’t want to ruin it for anyone.
A must read.
