Lachlain MacRieve, king of the werewolves, has been imprisoned and tortured for years. He has dreamed of revenge against the brutal vampire horde that has held him captive for so long. Lachlain is almost without hope when he discovers that the predestined mate he has awaited for a millennia is alive. He’s furious to find out that his mate is a vampire and his sworn enemy. There is something about petite, blonde Emmaline Troy that soothes the savage beast he has become. Emma is half Valkyrie and half vampire and she has never met a werewolf, especially not one like this man who has captured her and taken her back to his Scottish castle in the highlands.
Lachlain’s beastly nature and raging desire frighten Emma who has lived a sheltered life with her Valkyrie aunts in the bayou of Louisiana. She was in Paris searching for the truth about her parents when the powerful Lachlain kidnapped her. Fear and dark desires mingle when he begins his slow and inevitable seduction. She is the only one who can bring this formidable warrior to his knees. In turn Lachlain will help Emma become the fierce Valkyrie she was born to be. She still yearns to learn the identity of her father, but the truth will ultimately bring them together or tear them completely apart.
I was surprised to find that I liked this book. I didn’t have high hopes after reading the back cover. I really enjoyed the valkyrie part of Emma’s heritage and family. The variety of supernatural creatures in the book added depth and dimension to this alternate world. One part I didn’t care for was that Emma was a bit of a tease. Yes, she’s a virgin but for gods sake give a man a break. She would let things get really far between them and just when they’re about to go for it she shoves him away, again and again. The best part of the story, however, is Emma’s courage to take control of her life and protect the ones she loves at great cost to herself. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the Immortals After Dark Series, No Rest for the Wicked.

You might also like J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood novels. They have that whole sexy alpha male thing going on too.
If you look to the right of this page there is a link for J.R. Ward that lists the reviews of her books that are out.

I read this book before the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and it was good too. This book brought me into the whole vampire (paranormal?) genre. I will read the next book in this series too.

Hot! Intense! Sensual! Arousing! Quirky! Funny! Sad! Brave! You name it. This story has everything. Powerfully written. Love Emma the Timid’s journey from a tame scary sexy adorable kitten grown to become the brave beautiful vampire/valkrie she was suppose to be.
And her yummy Lykae hunter Lachlain, which made me want to take a bite of him too.
Both were so beautiful and compatible it brought tears of joy to my eyes. Used up a lot of tissues reading this one.
Kresley Cole now sits on my most favorite author’s list - right on the top that is.
Thanks Kresley
