Kitty Goes to Washington is the second book in Carrie Vaughn’s series about a werewolf talk radio host. Kitty Norville’s radio show The Midnight Hour is hotter than ever. She is traveling around the country doing her show because she had to leave Colorado or risk being killed by her former werewolf pack. Kitty has gained a bit of fame since publicly fessing up to her werewolf nature. Now she is being called to Washington D.C. to testify before a Congressional committee about the Center for Paranatural Biology. Her very own Deep Throat, Dr. Paul Flemming, recently announced his clandestine research lab’s existence and Congress wants to know what he’s been up to.

As the inadvertent voice of the supernatural community, Kitty has been subpoenaed to talk about herself and her fellow monsters. Unfortunately, the chairman of the committee is none other than the fanatical, bible-thumping Senator Duke. He’s on a witch-hunt and has seized the opportunity to reveal what he thinks are slavering monsters lurking in the shadows just waiting to devour the average citizen. New friends and old enemies await Kitty in the nation’s capital including a sexy, Brazilian jaguar and a powerful evangelist who is not what he seems. Carefully treading the minefield of human and supernatural politics will be a challenge for Kitty.

Kitty is such a cool character because as her lawyer says, she’s “Tough and whiny at the same time. It’s kind of cute.” She whines and cries about stuff like we all do and then she steps up and does something when she’d rather just hide in a corner. Even though the story is about a supernatural world it has parallels to real life. Kitty tackles heavy issues like racism, and apathy. But Vaughn balances the story with some fun by bringing back the hunky hit man Cormac who is as enigmatic and sexy as ever. Kitty Goes to Washington is funny, heart wrenching, and thought-provoking. As a bonus, there is a short story called Kitty Meets the Band included.
