A Bite to Remember is the fifth book in Lynsay Sand’s Argeneau vampire series. This new tale features Vincent Argeneau, cousin to the New York Argeneaus. Vincent is an actor who lives in L.A. He’s has a bit of trouble lately; someone is trying to disrupt the plays put on by his production company. At his cousin Bastien’s urging he hires private investigator Jackie Morrisey to find the culprit. The stakes are getting higher as several actors are injured in “accidents” and an entire cast is struck with contagious anemia. They need to find the perpetrator fast before the attacks turn against Vincent himself.
Jackie shows up in L.A. with her partner Tiny McGraw who of course isn’t tiny at all. He’s a big dude that whose calm demeanor works well with Jackie’s Napoleon complex. She’s got a bit of a chip on her shoulder about vampires or immortals as they call themselves. She’s had a bad experience with a vamp who used her and she doesn’t trust them even though she works for them. She’s one of few mortals who know about vampires and is trusted by the Argeneau family. Jackie is sure she can discover the identity of the saboteur if she can keep from becoming distracted by the handsome Vincent.
Vincent is different from other vampires she’s known, he’s just a genuinely nice guy who’s looking for his life mate. He’s charming, protective, and oh yeah he can kiss. Vincent has had 400 years to perfect his technique and using it on Jackie is looking more and more tempting. The spunky little take charge Jackie is just the kind of woman he needs to put some joy back into his life. If they could just find out who’s trying to hurt him he could deal with that and turn his mind to more important matters of seduction. Time is of the essence as the attacks begin to escalate and an immortal targets Jackie for death.
A Bite to Remember flows in the same vein as the previous Argeneau books. Vamp meets girl, falls in love with girl, wants to turn girl, girl isn’t sure she wants to be a vamp, hot sex, true love, happy ending. I think I’ve heard this story before. If you don’t mind hearing it one more time then this book is for you. Also prepare to read the word “saboteur” about a hundred times. Apparently a thesaurus was not handy during the writing of this book. The story ends on a groan inducing note when Vincent, while declaring his love, states that he’s slept with thousands of women so he should know that she’s the right one to be his life mate. Jeez, I think that’s the most unromantic thing a guy could ever say. The characters aren’t very deep or interesting, there’s not much below the surface here. This book is definitely a light read for a summer weekend.
