Kimberly Raye: Dead End Dating

Dead End Dating is the beginning of a new vampire series by Kimberly Raye. Lil Marchette is trying to start her own matchmaking service playing cupid to the New York City vampire set. Lil is a girly, fashion-obsessed vampire who loves cosmos. She is smart, gorgeous and hip to boot. She has always had a knack for matching people up and it’s time for her to strike out on her own. Besides if she doesn’t do something, her dad expects her to join the family business “Midnight Moe’s” (think Kinko’s). Her first client is Francis Deville, a geeky billionaire. If she can match Francis it will be a major coup and prove to her family and the vampire community that she has what it takes.

Lil is having enough trouble trying to get her business off the ground and her matchmaking mother off her back (it must run in the family). Studly, cowboy bounty hunter Ty Bonner shows up looking for a killer that finds his victims using dating services. He thinks the killer might show up at Dead End Dating and he needs her special vamp senses to help him identify potential suspects. Lil can read images from human minds and she thinks she can spot this guy if he comes to DED.

There’s some serious attraction going on between Lil and the tall, dark Texan but dating a made vampire is simply too outre’. Ty is a vampire but he is a “made” vampire rather than a “pure” or born vampire and the two don’t mix. Made vamps are sterile and finding Mr. Right in the vampire world is all about popping out the baby draculas. Helping him track down a killer sounds exciting to Lil, not to mention working with a vamp who gives her the tingles all over. No need to call in Ty for the capture though, she thinks she can handle wrangling the murderer on her own, after all she is a 200 year old vampire. Besides, no one is going to harm her clients. Juggling dates, killers, and cranky werewolves is hard but it’s all in a day’s work for this Manhattan matchmaker.

Dead End Dating is a fun read. If you like Sex and the City, you’ll love Dead End Dating. It’s vampire chick lit at it’s finest. The Dead End Dating series continues with Dead and Dateless coming February 2007. The third book, One Bite Stand is scheduled for release in July 2007.
