Dark Celebration, A Carpathain Reunion is Christine Feehan’s thanks to her loyal fans and their dedication to her writing. She brings back many of her unforgettable characters and includes the winning recipes from her Dark Desserts Recipe Contest. After centuries as Prince of the Carpathains, Mikhail Dubrinsky is afraid that the extinction of his species is near at hand. Their enemies have joined forces to destroy Carpathian females. Even though his wife and child are in danger he has not yet lost hope.

Carpathains from around the world have been called to return to the mountains of their origin to celebrate the holidays and to regroup their strength and power. They are gathering to bring their light to the darkness. Their enemies are uniting as well; hunters, vampires, and a powerful wizard will bring danger to this once safe refuge. For the first time, all the Carpathains will be gathered for a celebration and a once in a lifetime reunion.

The Carpathian family is growing and now includes human women who have strong psychic powers and female jaguar shapeshifters; both groups have been able to convert successfully adding much needed life into the dying species. The Carpathians as a people have been on a downward slide. Mikhail has been losing more hunters to turning vampire because there are not enough lifemates for them. Their women are also having difficulty conceiving children and keeping them alive after birth. The doctors and scientists of the group are researching the problems but the causes are still unknown.

Hints on what will be coming up in future books are revealed and new lifemates are found. Two human women with psychic powers will find themselves bound to dark, tormented hunters desperately in need of their mates. New enemies emerge when Natalya (lifemate to Vikirnoff) discovers that her brother, the mage Razvan has joined forced with the vampires to exact his revenge on her and her new family.

Feehan imbues her tale with imagination and her trademark sensuality and passion. The darker elements of the story are balanced by the fun and joy of the Christmas celebration. Carpathians don’t celebrate Christmas, but with the addition of humans to their fold, the familiar traditions help ease their transition into a new life. The best part of the book is definitely the recipes. Also included are two appendixes, one with Carpathian healing chants and a guide to the Carpathian language. The next book in the series is Dark Possession, the story of Manolito de la Cruz and MaryAnn Delaney.
