Review by Vicky London

Dance of the Gods is book two of the Circle Trilogy by Nora Roberts. This book picks up where Morrigan’s Cross left off. The circle of six is preparing for their final battle with Lilith and her vampire army. The stone circle called the Dance of the Gods is their gateway from Ireland to another world, Geall, where they will meet their destiny. The goddess Morrigan told them they would have a month to prepare, so Hoyt the sorcerer, Cian the vampire, Larkin the shapeshifter, Blair the vampire hunter, Moira the scholar, and Glenna the witch have been hard at work honing their battle skills and preparing their weapons.

Blair Murphy has always worked alone. She’s a vampire hunter in a world that does not believe in the supernatural. Learning to work as part of a team of six has been a challenge for her. Blair has a hard time with trust, especially with men since her father abandoned her when she turned 18. She finds herself drawn to Larkin, the courageous, fun-loving shapeshifter who takes pleasure in the simple things in life. Plus it doesn’t hurt that he’s a gorgeous, blond hunk.

To complete their preparations, the circle of six travels through the stones to Geall. In Larkin’s world Blair will have to decide if she can take a chance on a love that that may not survive the coming battle. For Moira, returning home to Geall is bittersweet. The people of Geall need her and she will have to ascend the throne as their new ruler in the wake of her mother’s brutal murder by vampires. Moira is also having feelings for the dark and complicated Cian that are confusing and troubling for her. It looks like they will be the third couple to hook up in the final book, Valley of Silence.

As with Morrigan’s Cross, this book was a bit too short. I still think it would have been better to combine all three books into one. My only other complaint about Dance of the Gods was the predictability of part of the plot. I hate it when you just know something bad is going to happen and the characters aren’t paying attention or are too dumb to figure out that splitting up is a really bad idea. It should be interesting to see how the relationship between Cian and Moira plays out. I can’t picture him becoming the king of Geall or Moria’s consort. Vampires killed their last queen so I’m not sure how the people would handle their new queen marrying one. Also there’s that whole mortal/immortal thing to overcome. I’m also curious to find out who the old man is that’s telling the story. There’s obviously some kind of tie in to the legend that he is telling.
