Review by Vicky London
Jessica Matthews is a single mom just trying to get by in Broken Heart, Oklahoma. One evening while taking out the trash because her lazy teenage son forgot, she’s attacked by a savage hairy beast that tears her throat out and drinks her blood. The next thing Jessica knows she’s sucking on the velvety thigh of Irish hunk Patrick O’Halloran. Plus, he’s naked and chained up. She’s now a vampire after being attacked but Patrick’s ancient blood has saved her from the same fate as the hairy vamp. Apparently he is the result of a vampire virus that makes them go insane. An experiment with werewolf blood to cure the virus has made him more animal than vampire.
Suddenly Jessica is inducted into a whole new nocturnal world that she’s not prepared to handle. On top of that, if she believes Patrick’s story, she is his true soulmate. If they were to have sex, they will be bonded for 100 years. She’s not that averse to having sex with the gorgeous Irish babe but she just got out of a bad marriage and being stuck with a new man for a century gives her the willies. Besides, she’s got her kids to think about. How are they going to handle a Mom that’s a vampire much less a new “Dad”.
Jessica will have to put her personal issues aside because a gang of evil vampires is set on destroying Patrick and The Consortium. The Consortium is a group of paranormals that facilitates education, communication and support for “parakind” and they have decided to make their new homebase Broken Heart, OK. They aim to set up a safe haven for parakind in the secluded Oklahoma town. Juggling motherhood, sex, and evil vampires is all in a day’s work for this tough, sassy single Mom who doesn’t take any crap.
I’m the Vampire, That’s Why is a very funny, quirky tale. Humor, suspense, and romance seem to be a winning combination for this new vampire author. The next book in the series will be out in 2007 and is titled Don’t Talk Back to Your Vampire.Read an excerpt of I’m the Vampire, That’s Why.
