Review by Vicky London
Kiss of Darkness is the seventh book in Heather Graham’s (aka Shannon Drake) vampire series. For some reason Heather Graham has published her latest vampire book as herself rather than Shannon Drake. I guess “New York Times Bestselling Author Heather Graham” sells more novels than Shannon Drake.
The whole gang, self-dubbed “The Alliance” is back in this story set in New Orleans. Jessica Fraser is a psychologist and B&B owner. The story begins as she is leaving to attend a psychology conference in Romania. She has a bad feeling about the upcoming trip and her instincts are justified when a group of college kids are attacked at a BDSM party in a Transylvanian castle. It turns out that the party is just a cover for a cultish group of vampires led by a powerful and evil vamp called The Master.
Back in New Orleans, Jessica is trying to forget what happened by helping a few of the students recover from their trauma. A visiting professor named Bryan McAllister takes a room at the B&B. He was also in Romania at the time of the party but for a much different purpose. He seems to know much more about vampires than a professor should. Sparks fly between Jessica and Bryan but little do they know that their attraction to each other has deep roots in their mysterious pasts. They will need to work together with The Alliance to defeat the ancient evil that has come to New Orleans seeking retribution against Jessica and Bryan.
No one is who they seem to be in this book. Everyone has something to hide that is not revealed until late in the story. Even though it’s told in the third person there are confusing surprises from every angle. The plot is weak and many of the actions of the characters are quite illogical and skimmed over in the attempt to get to the end of the story. This vampire series is repetitive with the same circumstances occurring over and over again.
