The Becoming by Jeanne C. Stein is one of the best vampire books of this year. Anna Strong is a bounty hunter in San Diego. Anna and her partner David go out on a routine apprehension and everything goes to straight to hell. The next thing she knows, she wakes in the hospital feeling too well for someone who has been viciously beaten. It’s not long until she learns that she has been turned into a vampire during the brutal attack. Life as she knows it is over and her world quickly begins to crumble around her. Luckily she has her best friend David for support and the handsome Dr. Avery who is showing a little extra attention for his patient.
Avery is trying to help Anna but things are not what they seem to be. Deciding whom to trust while avoiding danger at every turn will put this bounty hunter’s skills to the test. She must learn about this vampire world fast or risk losing everyone and everything she loves. The Becoming is a really great book. The plot twists and turns will keep you riveted in this original and interesting story. I picked up this book attracted by the gorgeous cover art and was pleasantly surprised by the story inside. If you love books with strong heroines you’ll definitely enjoy The Becoming. The next book in the series is called Blood Drive followed by The Watcher both coming in 2007. Omg, I rarelt meet people who enjoy reading about vampires. Or…just enhoy reading itself. This book is wonderful. I’ll pick up the next time I stop by my fave bookstore.

I picked up the Becoming to wile away a few hours, but the book was so engrossing I soon became part of the story and could not put it down until I finished the book at 3:00 AM!! Jeanne C. Stein is destined to be a new best-selling author! I can’t wait to read her next book, Blood Drive.

I read this book in a matter of hours, it was a very easy read that reminded me of young adult books. I did not find this series very entertaining, it felt like it was missing something. Maybe my tastes just run a bit darker . . .
