Review by Vicky London

The Rest Falls Away is the first book in Colleen Gleason’s Gardella Vampire Chronicles. Victoria Gardella Grantworth is the Buffy of Regency London. The Gardella family has a long history of vampire slayers. In each generation, one is called to accept the family legacy that will enable them to become a hunter. Not all of them are willing but Victoria is not one to shy away from her destiny. Becoming a Venator, or slayer will provide her with experiences and freedom that no woman of her day could possibly have.

Victoria’s debut is at hand she quickly discovers that danger lurks in the gilded ballrooms of London. Balancing a social life with vampire slaying is a challenge and becomes even more so when her heart is captured by the handsome Marquess of Rockley, London’s most eligible bachelor. She may have to choose between duty and love when the most powerful vampire of all sets her sights on Victoria.

The Rest Falls Away is a captivating story. Victoria struggles to fit in to London society all the while living her secret and dangerous life. She is supported by legendary Venators; her aunt Eustacia and the dark, broody Maximilian. Her job brings her into an underworld of London that few mortals see where she meets the sensual and enigmatic Sebastian Vioget. One of the more interesting characters, Sebastian will most certainly make an reappearance in future books. The next book in the series is Rises the Night, releasing in June 2007.
