Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs is the second book in her series about Mercedes Thompson. Mercedes is a mechanic who also happens to be a “walker” who can shift into coyote form. Mercy was raised by werewolves but left the pack fairly young when she found out her boyfriend just wanted her for her ability to have children. Now she lives in the Tri-Cities area of Washington but she can’t seem to get werewolves out of her life. Mercy’s neighbor and sometime crush, Adam is the alpha of the local werewolf pack. If that’s not enough testosterone floating around, she’s also got her ex-boyfriend Samuel bunking in her trailer.
Stefan, a local vampire and friend needs Mercy’s help. He’s tracking down a vampire who is in the area without the permission of his mistress. He needs her unique disguise as a coyote to find out why this new vamp is prowling around. A simple favor spirals into violence and bloodshed and leaves the supernatural community rocked. Mercy doesn’t have any special strengths other than her ability to shift, but it will be up to this average young woman to save the men she cares about from a brutal end at the hands of a demon-ridden sorcerer.
Briggs creates a fascinating and complex world of human, fae, werewolves, and vampires. Blood Bound is a good book but there are serious overtones of Anita Blake happening. This series has a lot of potential and I hope it doesn’t start to slide down that slippery slope. That said, I think one of the things Patricia Briggs does well is to take you away for a few hours into another world and tell you a great story. She definitely accomplishes that with Blood Bound.

excellent book. totally satisfying.
the love triangle between mercy, sam and adam gets more intense. mercy also discovers that she may have more than adam and sam fighting for her heart when stefan shocks her with romantic whispers and a kiss.
action and drama through out and the tension in the pack grows as adams second finds out that warren, adams third is stronger than him.
