Review by Vicky London

Claimed by Shadow is the second book in Karen Chance’s fantasy series. Cassandra Palmer is a young clairvoyant raised by vampires. An unwanted legacy has left Cassie as the Pythia, the world’s chief clairvoyant. This new job involves getting sucked back in time to protect someone’s future that is being endangered. Not only does she have a tremendous amount of power with no training, she’s the new popular girl in town. Everyone wants her on their side from the vamps to the fey and the mages.

Cassie’s life starts to get complicated when she discovers that a master vampire has put a geis on her that keeps away any unwanted suitors and creates an intense attraction to him. The last thing this independent woman wants is anyone controlling her regardless of how hot this arrogant vampire makes her. Cassie is about to get thrown into her first assignment as Pythia but a rival wants to take her place and make sure that Cassie dies a slow and painful death.

Claimed by Shadow is mentally exhausting to read. With all the running and fighting and running and fighting some more you’ll be ready for a nap. Cassandra’s indecision is also rather frustrating and seems out of place for such a take charge woman. Some new supernatural folk are added to the mix and you can almost believe that such a world exists within the weird and wonderful world of Las Vegas. The first book in this series is Touch the Dark.
