Review by Vicky London
Kiss of Midnight is the first book in the Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian. Gabrielle Maxwell is a talented photographer with a tragic background. She was abandoned by her mother as an infant. Her mother committed suicide shortly after, convinced that she had been attacked by a vampire. One night, Gabrielle finds herself believing in vampires when she witnesses a group of Rouges attack and kill a man outside a nightclub.
Boston’s underground world teems with vicious Rouges, vampires who have given in to the bloodlust and live for the kill. Now, someone is organizing the Rouges into a deadly army intent on wiping out the Breed warriors and taking over the human world.
Lucan Thorne is the leader of those warriors. He goes to Gabrielle’s to take the cellphone pictures she captured of the brutal murder and finds more than he bargained for. His attraction to Gabrielle is instantaneous and mutual but he is stunned to find that she is a Breedmate. She is one of a select group of human females that are destined to become a mate to a vampire male. The last thing he wants is a mate but his protective instincts drive him to bring her closer into his world. The passion between these two cannot be denied but his fear for her and Lucan’s own tragic past could come between them.
Midnight Breed is an awesome new series that will appeal to fans of J.R. Ward. The Breed warriors are very sexy and extremely dangerous. This fantasy world is dark, and multi-layered with a twist at the end that provides the perfect setup for the next book in this exciting series. The release date for Kiss of Midnight is May 1, 2007 and you won’t have to wait long for the next in the series, Kiss of Crimson which will be on sale at the end of May. I really liked this book it was different from JR Ward but different is good. I think the warriors are very likable. I would love to know more about Gideon and Savannah(?) they sound like the old couple of the group. I look forward to the next book. The bad guys are very scary, but I like that. This book had me checking myself for unusual moles. Thanks.
