Review by Vicky London
Changeling is the second book in Yasmine Galenorn’s Sisters of the Moon series. The story is told from the perspective of Delilah, the second D’Artigo sister who is a werecat. The sisters are half-human, half-fae agents of the Otherworld Intelligence Agency (OIW). They have cover jobs (being secret agents and all) and Delilah works as a private investigator. A pride of werpumas seeks her out for assistance. Members of the pride have been picked off in mysterious and gruesome murders. The supernatural killings lead to a forgotten enemy bent on revenge but all is not quite as it seems. Somehow demons are involved which makes the werepuma’s problem the sister’s new problem.
In Witchling the girls managed to thwart an earthside takeover by Shadow Wing, the ruler of the underworld. Now Shadow Wing is trying again and demons have entered through and earth portal in the sister’s area. They won’t get any help from the OIW this time because there is a civil war going on. The girls are on their own but with a little help from their friends (including a werefox and a dragon called Smokey) they may be able to defeat evil once again.
The D’Artigo sisters live in an alternate fantasy Seattle where faeries, weres and vampires are commonplace. Their world is rich with magic and rife with danger. I liked Changeling much better than Witchling. Chase, Delilah’s boyfriend, was a much more sympathetic character in this book rather than a weird letch. Delilah is complex and her encounter with an elemental lord adds another interesting layer. The werespiders were a very scary addition and had me glancing around looking for creepy crawlies. Parts of the book did make me laugh however even though I don’t think they were intended to be funny. The next book in the series is Darkling featuring Menolly, the vampire sister.
