Master of Dragons is the fifth book in Angela Knight’s mageverse series. Just to give a little background, the mageverse is an alternate earth where King Arthur and his knights of the round table live. The men are immortal vampire warriors known as “magus” and the women are all witches called “magae”. They have a symbiotic relationship; the vampires need blood to live and the witches provide that blood keeping them from fatal aneurysms. The warriors and witches of the mageverse were created by Merlin to protect earth and humanity from outside enemies and from themselves.
Master of Dragons is the story of Kel, a dragon knight. Gawain, another knight of the round table had saved Kel from a hellhound attack when he was in his dragon form. Kel and Gawain quickly became friends. Kel’s uncle, upset about his contact with humans, trapped him in an enchanted sword when Kel refused to kill Gawain. For fifteen centuries they have been a team with Gawain wielding the enchanted sword and Kel lending him his dragon magic. In Master of Swords, they found a way to break the spell and Arthur offered Kel a place at the round table.
Enter the picture, Nineva Morrow, a real live fairy princess. Nineva is the culmination of a prophecy destined to free the goddess Semira (who also had the bad fortune to become trapped in a sword). Nineva has been raised on earth by her fae father and human mother to keep her safe from Ansgar, a fairy king who most definitely does not want the prophecy to come true. Nineva knows she has a duty to fulfill but has been having disturbing visions of a gorgeous knight who makes love to her, then becomes a dragon and burns her to a crisp. The prophecy foretells of a blue dragon and that she will become “lost and burning in his fire”.
The dragon god Cachamwri, asks Kel to find and protect Nineva. The dark ones, aliens from another universe are planning on invading and taking over earth. Part of their evil plan involves the sword of Semira and death magic starring Nineva as the sacrifice. Nineva’s only hope for survival is the smoldering dragon knight, Kel. As universes hang in the balance, Nineva struggles with her destiny. Must her life be traded to resurrect a goddess when she’s finally found the real man of her dreams?
Master of Dragons is another solid addition to this fantasy paranormal series. Knight changes things up a bit with a dragon and fairy couple. The characters from previous books make an appearance including Diana the werewolf who married the elf King Lyr. The action is fast paced and the love scenes are sizzling. The story can stand alone but will make more sense if read as part of the series.
