Review by Vicky London

Blood Red is the seventh book in Heather Graham’s vampire series. Lauren Crow and her friends are in New Orleans for a wild bachelorette trip. A fortune-teller puts a damper on their Bourbon Street party when she shows Lauren frightening omens and warns the girls to leave the city or they will die. She and her friends laugh it off until strange things start happening and one of the girls disappears.

As the danger grows, Lauren finds herself attracted to a man who is possibly a stalker and more likely delusional. Mark Davidson prowls New Orleans by night hunting vampires with stakes and holy water. He tries to convince Lauren that their existence is real and that she and her friends are being targeted by a powerful and evil vampire. Mark is drawn to Lauren because of her resemblance to his dead fiancee. But, his obsession with revenge masks a deeper vendetta that goes beyond lost love.

New Orleans provides a perfect backdrop for this dark and traditional vampire tale. Graham includes some of the characters from previous books that make up the “alliance”, a group of humans, vampires, and werewolves that police the supernatural community in a classic fight of good against evil. This is vintage Heather Graham suspense with a twist at the end you’ll see coming about a mile away. If you like Lori Handeland’s Nighcreature novels you might enjoy Heather Graham’s vampire series.
