Betsy Taylor, Queen of the Vampires, is finally getting married to Sinclair. The wedding plans are falling into place but suddenly the groom is nowhere to be found. Who wouldn’t want to avoid all the yammering about wedding cake the bride and groom can’t actually eat? Betsy’s friends are all missing in action too with the exception of Jessica who’s stuck at the hospital getting chemo. Then a tragedy happens and Betsy finds herself truly alone with no one to lean on. Distraught and confused, she knows that something is very wrong and it’s up to her to get to the bottom of the disappearances. Betsy is determined to get her happily every after even if she has to kick some serious ass to do it.
I’m definitely a fan of MaryJanice Davidson’s books but I have to admit the Betsy series was getting a little tired. The books seemed to be shrinking in length along with the quality of the stories and to top it off they started coming out in hardcover ($23 for a 200 page book? Sheah right). Well, I’m happy to say that she’s back on target with Undead and Uneasy. I really enjoyed this one; it was unexpected and entertaining. I was a bit scared after reading “A Letter to My Readers” that showed up in Undead and Unpopular. I was sure that she was going to kill off all of Betsy’s friends. Thank God she didn’t. That’s not to say that everyone lives but at least she didn’t take out the best characters.
I still want to whine about the length however. It only took me a couple of hours to polish off this little treat but it seems that MJD explains it in her letter when she says “Well, I can write fast or I can write long, but I can’t do both”. Hmmm, I think I’d rather wait a little longer between books. If you’re waiting for the verdict on this one, I say buy it.
