Partners is book two in Susan Sizemore’s Laws of the Blood dark fantasy series. The books are being reissued by Ace and have great new covers. The series is about vampires that act as enforcers for the Laws of vampire-kind. They help to keep the secret of vampire’s existence from humans.

Enforcer Char McCairn is looking for a young vampire who has gone missing in Seattle. She has also been given her first order as a new enforcer, kill vampire hunter Jebel Haven. Jebel shows up in Seattle searching for a missing teen who may have been abducted by vampires. It just so happens to be the same kid, so Jebel and Char team up to find their prey. They both figure they’ll kill each other when the task is done but their attraction just might overcome their homicidal tendencies. The two reluctant partners have a bigger problem on their hands. Seattle is under the influence of a dark evil that could prove deadly for vampires and humans alike.

Laws of the Blood is billed as dark fantasy but definitely includes some romance. The cool part is that Partners is sort of the anti-romance. Char is this fearsome enforcer whose job is to hunt and kill if necessary. Jebel is a hard core ex-con who kills vampires. They’re actually a perfect match but some of their “romantic moments” come in some pretty strange places. I really liked it but I recommend you start with book one in the series, The Hunt. I started with Partners and felt I was missing a lot of the explanations about vampire society and their Laws. You can order this book from Amazon by clicking on the cover above.
