Vishous, a vampire and warrior of the Black Dagger Brotherhood finally gets his story in this fifth installment of the series, Lover Unbound. Vishous, son of the Bloodletter carries a destructive curse and the ability to see the future. As a boy growing up in his father’s war camp he was tortured, beaten and abused. Now that he is a warrior, he has no room for feelings only the goal of destroying the enemy in their battle with the Lessening Society. When a mortal injury puts him in the hands of a human surgeon Dr. Jane Whitcomb, she draws out his inner pain and for the first time he experiences love. A future with Jane is impossible because destiny has other plans for Vishous and they cannot include her.
J.R. Ward delivers yet again with this 500+ pages of delicious Black Dagger Brotherhood goodness. Her books are like crack, you’ll be hooked instantly. The ending wasn’t as satisfying but in Ward’s world not everyone gets out alive much less happy. I have one other small criticism related to Vishous’s feelings about Butch. I wish she wouldn’t have characterized his feeling as making him a “freak” or a “pervert”. I just can’t buy that feelings can be turned off of on like a light switch, it makes them seems less important and as deep as they should be. Regardless, I loved Lover Unbound in all it’s testosterone soaked, melodramatic, sexy glory. I’m already dying for the next one. Go buy it!

I read this book in two days, as I was so looking forward to the next one. But I was disappointed in this a bit. Just a bit mind you. The ending had me wanting more as usual, but I was wondering about the others a bit as they were not mentioned much, with the exception of John, Phury and Z. Also, the Jane thing left me a bit cold. Ah well, no one is immune from those lessers…now are they?

I too was a “bit” disappointed in the ending of Lover Unbound. I felt that something was missing. Not as exciting as the other books. But I still cannot wait for the sixth book.

I thought this book was very different from the others. I still like the over all story line but I was a little put off with some parts, like the whole ghost think, strange. I think V and the Cop had the best parts, I really loved the June Cleaver thing, that was great. The view into the warrior camp was very good also. I’m glad V made up, in his own way, with his “mom” but I wonder what’s going to happen when he finds out about the other one, that is a book I know I will read. I look forward to Phury’s book and I hope more is said about JM and his boys, I think they will be the next troika.

As much as I hate it, I have to agree that the ending was kind of lacking. I think I would have liked it if she just died and then came back as a vampire or either was completely whole. I do love the ultimate story of Jane and the redemtion idea. I can’t wait to find out how Phury is going to find himself. Although I was hoping to find out a little more about Thorment, we’ll just have to see. I am enjoying JM finding himself and Z, noticing Darius in him was a very nice touch.
I pray JM will find his voice and I was hoping that it would happen in this book. There are a lot of great potiential new plotlines in this book that I pray JR will explore more.
I already can’t wait to devour the next book, this one only lasted 2days for me as well.

I was so looking forward to this book. I enjoyed most of it, and I loved Jane. I especially liked the scene with Jane and V in his penthouse. I, too, was disappointed with parts of it. There was not much action with the destroying of the lessers. And I was also disappointed with the ultimate ending. Of course, I am waiting for the next one.

I always love hearing more about my boys. I believe the lameness of the ending comes from Jane ultimately being neither here nor there. After all, if the Scribe Virgin could do something for Rhage’s Mary, why not Jane?
Does anyone else think maybe Dr. Manny may have something to do with the doctor who is Butch’s biological father?
I hear the book after Phury is about Rehv. Makes me wonder who he can hook up with since he’s a sympath. V’s ‘other’?

I thought the book was good, the ending dissapontd me a little, but the plot twists were amazing. I was so relieved that john got through his transition ok i presonally can’t wait for his book.I did get the idea that maybe Dr. Manny could have something to do with Butch’s dad but my friend didn’t think so. I am dying to find out what happened to Thorment. I cant wait for the next one.

I really did love this book. V has always been my favorite. Bringing up what happened to V in his father’s camp went a long way to explaining his relationship with Butch. I, too thought it was interesting how V looked at Dr Manny and thought “Brother” - cant wait for that to be expanded upon. Although quite a few people werent happy with Jane’s experiences - I thought they fit in really well the Scribe Virgin and V. It was a great interplay between the two: a growing of a relationship. V really did go through hell in the book. All in all I thought it was a great book and tied up alot quite nicely and left me pining for the next one.

I thought the book was good too, but the Jane’s end was very disappointing. How can the author make her into a ghost? How can the passionate special V-man be satisfied with a ghost woman? I wish I can be with V…LOL…anyway I’d also have preferred Jane returned as a super vampire since she was a doctor during her human adult life. I hope the future books will feature strong intelligent women to match with the remaining “Brothers”. I wonder if the author JR Ward can write in a Plus-size woman for one of the big strong Brothers. Please be fair to the other real size women of this world. :-))

i really enjoyed the book, i was desperate to read V’s story, without a doubt the sexist of the brothers.lol.. .i actually liked the ending, there is nothing wrong in adding a ghost to the mix, better than her turning into a vamp or back to her normal self. the best part though has to be the relationship between Butch and Vishous! i know i will read this book again.
