Review by Vicky London

Taken by the Night is the third book in Kathryn Smith’s Brotherhood of Blood series. Ivy Dearing is no stranger to vampires or the lusts of men. Raised in a brothel that doubles as a vampire safe house, Ivy has seen just about everything. Saint, a vampire Ivy has had a crush on since she was a child, is back and he arrives to the news of two horrific murders at the house. Ivy has no fear and she intends to track down the monster who killed her friends. Saint knows better that to get involved with a human woman but he can’t seem to help himself when it comes to Ivy. Her honest and open sensuality draws him like a moth to flame. As they search for a killer together, they will risk it all for a love that lasts forever.

Historical novels are not my favorite but I really enjoyed Taken by the Night. The story isn’t bogged down by details of dress and society as other Regency tales often do. Saint is also a refreshing change from the typical jaded world-weary vampire. He enjoys falling in love and has no fear of doing so even though it has turned out badly for him in the past. Ivy is another unique character who has no problem saying exactly what she thinks and feels. Add in a clever plot and intense chemistry and you have a winning story.

The other books in the series are Be Mine Tonight (The Brotherhood of Blood, Book 1) and Night of the Huntress (The Brotherhood of Blood, Book 2).
