Kiss Me Deadly is the second book in the Bewitch the Dark series by Michele Hauf. Ravin Crosse is a witch and a vampire slayer. She spends her evenings riding her motorcycle through the Twin Cities hunting for vampires. As a witch she has a unique weapon, her blood is poisonous to vampires. A single drop will destroy a vampire within minutes. Two months ago, Nikolaus Drake survived an attack by the witch. He is now a creature of legend and stronger than any living vampire. And now he is on the hunt for vengeance against the one who nearly ended his existence.
Ravin has made a bargain with the devil and she has three obligations to fulfill to get her soul back. One of her tasks is to craft a love spell. When a large angry vampire barges into her apartment, an unfortunate accident occurs resulting in Nikolaus falling madly in love with her. Can enemies truly love on another or is it all just witchcraft?
Kiss Me Deadly has a really clever premise set in a world where vampires and witches are mortal enemies. It took me a little time to warm up to the story but in the end was a very enjoyable read. The characters are interesting and multi-layered which is hard to do in a story less than 300 pages. Kiss Me Deadly is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone novel.
Book one in the series is From the Dark followed by Kiss Me Deadly. The next book will be His Forgotten Forever due out in Summer 2008.
