Review by Vicky London

Reborn is the third book in Nancy Kilpatrick’s Power of the Blood World series. Reborn takes place several years after the events of the second book, Near Death. The half human, half vampire child, Michel is now grown and on the verge of immortality. The story begins with the shocking murder of Chloe, one of the ancient vampires. Her demise throws the close knit group of vampires into a tailspin. They are sure that the evil vampire Antoine is exacting his revenge upon them but how he was able to kill such an old vampire is a mystery.

Antoine’s evil intent becomes clear when Gertig goes missing in Germany. Her partner Karl is devastated to learn that she has joined Antoine because he has promised her that he holds the key for her to become human again. Karl won’t let her go without a fight and receives some unexpected help from Michel and a young mortal woman dying of AIDS.

Nancy Kilpatrick is the master of the intellectual vampire novel. The concepts she explores are very profound yet basic in their commonality to all humans. She also has a gift for writing emotion in a way that makes you feel the pain and joy of the characters. If you like Anne Rice, you will be sure to like Nancy Kilpatrick’s vampire novels.
