Lord of the Night by Robin T. Popp is the fourth book in the Night Slayers series. Kacie Renault’s family was killed by vampires when she was a child. She has been raised by her guardian on the Winslow’s Estate, a family of vampire slayers. Trained as a slayer by Erik Winslow, Kacie was stunned to discover that he is a vampire as well. She left home trying to forget about vampires and the death and destruction they have brought upon her family.

Erik became a vampire, along with two of his best friends when they were bitten by a chupacabra. He has lived on his family estate since then, training future generations to slay any vampires who attack humans. There have been no feedings on humans by the other local vampires because of a pact that Erik made with them. The pact is threatened when Erik discovers that Kacie is back in town and she has murdered one of his best friends who is also a vampire.

Kacie is grown up now and gorgeous to boot. She defies Erik at every turn, still pissed off that her mentor is a vamp. She’s back to say goodbye before moving to the U.S. but she can’t leave her past behind so easily. Slaying comes natural to her and Erik stirs her old teenage crush to life and it’s morphing into the desire of a mature woman. Erik is equally affected but trying to save Kacie’s life from a brother bent on revenge is going to take some serious finesse.

Lord of the Night has a few good things going for it, a woman who is strong and fierce and a lovely and romantic ending. Sadly, what falls between is a bit more middle of the road and forgotten almost immediately after reading the book. You can order Lord of the Night by clicking on the book cover above.
