Ciara Griffin is a former con artist trying to go straight. She’s in college and has the opportunity to take an internship at a local radio station with a unique format. The actual shows are only at night and each DJ specializes in an era of music; everything from 40’s blues, 70’s punk, to 80’s grunge. Ciara quickly learns that the DJs are experts because they’re vampires and actually lived the music of that era. The music helps them stay connected and keeps the vampires from “fading” and becoming mindless bloodsuckers. The owner of the radio station wants to sell out to a corporation that will turn it into a cloned pop station, unless it starts to make a bigger profit. Ciara wants to help the vampires and with her marketing makeover the station becomes WVMP, The Lifeblood of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

The vampires quickly become celebrities but they attract the attention of some very dangerous vampires who think the only way to survive is to stay hidden in secret. Things start to get complicated fast for Ciara especially when it comes to her relationship with sexy, grunge DJ Shane McAllister. Ciara is trying to change, but her con artist skills may come in handy to save the station when she has to pull off the scam of her life.

Sometimes, when you read as many vampire books as I do, you think you’ve seen it all. Plots start to sound familiar and of course the nature of vampires changes some from author to author but the basics tend to be the same. Wicked Game truly has something new and interesting to add to the genre. It’s a little bit like Kitty and the Midnight Hour but with the main character being human. The concepts that vamps would be stuck in the era in which they were made is fun and thought provoking and it will be a challenge for Ciara to see if she can help them learn new things.

The release date for Wicked Game is May 13, 2008. You can order the book from Amazon by clicking on the book cover above.
