Review by Vicky London

Lynsay Sands continues her long running Argeneau family vampire series with the ninth book, Vampire, Interrupted. This is Marguerite Areneau’s story. Margeurite has always been the matchmaker of the family. She goes out of her way to help her children and other family members to find their lifemates, and now it’s her turn. Marguerite is finally free from her hellish 700 year marriage to the controlling Jean-Claude Argeneau. She’s taken the opportunity to start a new life and a new job.

Her first case as a private investigator is to find the identity of Christian Notte’s mother. Christian is a vampire as well. He was told his mother died long ago but he has never been able to learn her identity from his father, Julius. Julius would rather Christian not know anything about his mother. He would be terribly hurt if he knew the truth which turns out to be stranger than even Julius knows.

The case seems fairly straightforward to Marguerite until she wakes up in a hotel room at the wrong end of a sword. Someone wants to stop her from finding out the truth but it only makes her more interested to find who this mysterious woman might be. Marguerite meets Julius during the aftermath of the attack and there is an instant connection and attraction. But learning to trust again after the prison of her marriage is a challenge she’s not sure she’s up to. Julius is determined to woo her and give Marguerite her own happily-ever-after.

It’s hard to write nine books in any type of romance series and keep it fresh and interesting. Instead, Sands provides the comfort of a group of familiar characters who play a part in each novel. This one is actually a very bittersweet story with a very appropriate title. Marguerite has endured an unhappy marriage times a thousand. Her husband was able to read and control her making her into a slave to his whims. It’s nice to see this character finally get her happy ending.
