Review by Vicky London
I was so happy when my review copy of From Dead to Worse showed up at my door. I’ve been a fan of the Sookie Stackhouse series from the first book and I’ve come to really like all of Charlaine Harris’s books. She has a few other series that she writes that are all a little bit different but have her signature sense of humor.
In this 8th book of the series, Sookie finds out she’s not as alone as she thought she was. Two people enter her life that have the potential to change just about everything. One of them (I think) explains why vampires like Sookie so much. The other person (I predict) will be someone that she can really identify with and will have a very big impact on her life in a positive way. Sookie seems to have crap luck with men yet again when Quinn goes MIA after they survive the bombing of the vampire summit in Rhodes. In addition, her dumb ass brother makes her pay for his own foolish mistake. If that’s not enough, former boyfriend and werewolf, Alicide Herveaux draws Sookie into a violent power struggle in his pack.
I feel like there’s so many things I can’t give details on otherwise it will spoil the book for you. The bottom line is that it’s a great story. Charlaine deftly manages to avoid the pitfalls that other authors have experienced when their series goes hardcover. She keeps things fresh and interesting but at the same time bringing you back to a familiar world. Definitely A+.

Just so you know, it’s all your fault.

I never got into the Sookie Stackhouse series, but your review has made me change my mind and so of course, yesterday I raced out to get Dead Until Dark.
I have to finish New Moon and Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer first (library’s have this funny thing about returning books - I don’t understand whyyyy…), but I do believe I will be reading Sookie next…
Thanks!

Another winner from Charlaine Harris!!….she just gets better and better with each book. she is fast becoming one of my favorite writers. Her books are well written and fun to read.
Her characters are wonderful, Sookie is one of the best written heroines, she is funny, decent, kind and loyal…to a fault. You cannot help but like her and root for her happiness. The other characters who populate her universe (Vamps, witches, Fairies, weres) are all fascinating and well written in their own right. Another great thing is that the characters evolve in each book.
I could not put this book down, there were so many things going on, revelations, twist and turns on every page. Even with so much going on Ms. Harris kept control of the plot. I cannot wait for her next book!!!
The Harper Connelly series is also very good and highly recommended.

I just finished this one last week and I couldn’t put it down. I find the rest of the Sookie books to be this way. There were some new twists and it seemed really short for me. But would Eric and Sookie just hook up and be done with it please??

That was an awesome book. All of them were good, and I think All Together Dead was perhaps my favorite, but this is an excellent series and I am so glad I got into it! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

Great review! I am currently rereading Dead Until Dark, as I can’t find a copy of the 2nd book! Will have to order it from Amazon
Have read the Twilight series as well - have to say, I enjoyed the romance in Twilight more but Sookie was a much more likeable heroine than Bella!! Bella annoys the heck out of me - though the movie had a much more likeable Bella than the book
Any other series recommendations along these lines?

Hmm, there are so many good series out there. One of my recent favorites is Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series. I like the romance in her books but the main character, Cat is much more of a kick-ass chick than your traditional heroine. I hope you enjoy the rest of the Sookie series.
