Review by Vicky London
J.R. Ward has raised the Black Dagger Brotherhood series to a new level with book 6, Lover Enshrined. If you’re looking for a romance here, you won’t really find it. The story is not so much about Phury and Cormia; they are merely a side note sandwiched between chapters of the bigger happenings. I really enjoyed the overall story much more and found the relationship between these two characters fairly uninteresting. I really just wanted Phury to snap out of his psychosis. I think I would have been happier with Cormia finding someone else.
My favorite part of the book had more to do with John and his development as a new major player in the series. Massive change is afoot and John and his friends are forced to become adults in a lighting fast series of events. A new and deadly weapon is also awakened right under the nose of the BDD. The bad guys definitely get their share of pages this time around and the Lessening Society gains a firmer foundation in their war with the vampires. Lover Enshrined is a big blast of information and an exciting story. If you’re a fan of the series you won’t be disappointed (except by the lack of romance).

The book was great but there is not a lot of romance, which I find as a good thing. This book had me reading all night long from page to page screaming from all the drama that was going down. For those who haven’t read it yet: What in the world are you waiting for??? I give this book a big fat 10!!!

I didn’t mind the lack of romance but did want the Phury and Corima (spelling?) characters to be developed more fully. Felt Phury was the only brother to be portrayed as a weak link when in previous books the other brothers’ were strong even while overcoming their weaknesses….virtually no interaction with the other brothers and Phury until the very end. Too many storylines for JRWard future books. She’s setting the stage for a new series and other BDB stories. Why do I think she’s compromised her current series for the all mighty dollar… maybe because I feel she’s just stringing us along with a few tidbits here and few tidbits there and she will not deliver worthwhile books as she has in the past. Phury’s book was a bust. Will still read her books for a little while to see if she’s becoming commercial like a lot of writers who start off writing in paperback form then get evelated to having them published as hardbacks for the money.

I did not mind the lack of romance. I did think the Phury/Cormia relationship was boring. Why the heck would she want to be with that guy?! I have never thought that before in a BDB book. I was always envious of the women. Not in this one. And I did not buy the guys being supportive in the end. He was such an addict, I would have had to see more change to believe it was for real and long term. Glad the Phury being obsessed with Bella is over. That drug on too long in my opinion. I wish she would go back and explain how Torh and Wellsie got together. Or explain who Butch’s dad really was!

Well although the romance might be missing I just wanted to focus on how the other BDD characters are doing (esp. Zsadist and Vishous X3 oh and Butch too coz he’s funny X3)
And yeah Hurrah for John Matthews~!!! >__

I really like J.R.’s first four books. Phury’s book was okay if you don’t like romance. Me I love romance books. If she doesn’t want to write romance and write just about vampires and the lessers than don’t say it’s a romance book!

Although I really like these BDB books I get the feeling that something’s just off … it’s more like a play and the spot light focuses on some characters (Phury and Cormia for instance) and the others are just shadows more or less like themselves(Rhage in the 6th book almost doesn’t exist) … maybe there are too many characters for JR Ward to sustain, it just feels like she doesn’t have control over all the characters over time …once a character is “REVEALED” (meaning transforms from the begining image in something sligtly diffrent) he/she becomes a sketch - no more surprises with that one! Like in a play when an actor comes unfront, does a little trick and goes back … and another comes forth, and another, and another, and another … but never ever the first is coming back to show a second trick … everybody changes just once … hm, a good writer can do more than that!

I enjoyed this book because it gave me some more information on the others. The story line about Phury and Cormia was not very interesting, even though the sexy scenes were great. I wanted the other brothers to make more of an impact, but at least Thorment is back. I wanted to cry when him and JM were together, it was very sad. I look forward to Rhev, he is off the hook.. I liked this book but I did not re-read it as much as the first 5. I hope JM and the boys show up big time in the next book.. Blay and Qhuinns’ kiss was hot!!!!. I want JM and Xhex to mix it up some more too. I am still a fan so bring it on, she writes it I read it.

Hey, i’ve been looking forward to Phury’s story and i felt that this book didn’t do him too much justice as Doris said above. It’s unfair how little book time Phury had and the love story between him and Cormia wasn’t as strong or believable. I really hope more develops for these characters in the future becaused they were shortchanged.
I love the series though and would keep on reading whatever Ward writes.
I wonder what’s left of Rhage’s story to tell as he has virtually disappeared since book 2.
I love all the characters. JM and Tohr’s stories are being drawn out too long though. I can’t wait for closer.
Keep it coming Ms Ward!
