Review by Vicky London
Pleasure Unbound is the first book in Larissa Ione’s Demonica series. There’s something about the cover of this novel that shouts “erotica inside!” even though the image is not overly sexy. Don’t let that deter you however, inside is a fascinating world of demons that live alongside and beneath humans. Eidolon is an doctor who runs a hospital for demons. Being an Incubus himself, he knows that demons can’t exactly go to the local human emergency room for help. He’s an all around good guy trying to keep his inner demon in check. That is until one day when a critically injured demon-slayer winds up in his hospital.
Tayla Mancuso is a hunter who works for The Aegis, a society of human warriors dedicated to protecting the world from evil. Tayla has hated demons since she saw one murder her mother. To her they are all evil and must be destroyed. When she meets the smoldering hot doc, Eidolon, her assumptions about demons are all turned on their head. An intense and unlikely attraction is sparked between the two opposites, but their fears about each other may keep them apart. Tayla will have to decide for herself whether she will remain loyal to her peers and betray the man who saved her or to surrender and let him possess her body and soul.
This was a really enjoyable book. The demon world has endless potential for characters and plotlines for future books. I’m assuming that Eidolon and his brothers will be the primary focus of the coming books in the Demonica series. He has two brothers, Wraith and Shade. Wraith is part vampire and part incubus. He seems like a dark, tortured guy with plenty of angst to spread around. Shade has a mysterious curse on him that is supposed to kick in if he falls in love with a woman. It’s a virtual goldmine of drama. Eidolon’s interaction with his brothers is really well done and you can tell that they love each other. There were a few giggle worthy moments related to the incubus thing, all I can say is magical man juice. What really makes the book though is Ms. Ione’s prose, there was a page I bookmarked because I just love the language she uses. I’ll leave you with this quote from the book:
It didn’t seem possible that he could love, but there it was, and something inside her wanted to reach out to him. The need to do so, the warm, subtle glow of it, bloomed like a poisonous flower, a terrifying yet beautiful weed to be destroyed before it spread.

I just fell in love with this book in mid-summer! I needed somthing to keep my mind of the death threats that my ex would keep on saying, so I sat down in barnes and Nobles and automatically fell in love with the book! I finished reading it in 2 days after my bestfriend got it 4 me on my 16th b-day. Im waiting for here next three books in the demonica novels but wish that there would be another souly revovling around Eidolon and Tayla. Its beautiful how these two are natural enemies and yet fall in love despite this fact. But all in all, its great. Anybody who likes demons, vampire, werewolves and all that goodness should read this book. But does anybody know any other great books like this one that I can read? My boyfriend is leaving the school next month and Im going to despertley need a good novel like this one.
