I’ve got some exciting news to start your holiday weekend! (For my international readers, that’s Labor Day for Americans). To celebrate the September release of Marta Acosta’s The Bride of Casa Dracula. We will be giving away not one, not two, but all three books in this fabulous series. And for a cherry on top of that delicious sundae I will be throwing in a free Hide-a-Book cover of the winner’s choice.
How do you enter? Well, it’s quite easy my friend. The main character of the Casa Dracula series, Milagro de Los Santos (coolest name ever BTW), is someone I would like to have as a friend. She’s smart, funny and brave. She never takes crap from anyone and never takes the easy road in life. Milagro is a character I wouldn’t mind being more like. So what I want to know is, if you could pick any fictional character to have as a best friend, who would it be and why? Leave your answer in the comments below.
The giveaway is open for entry until Midnight EST September 6, 2008.
Cheers!
-Vicky London
UPDATE: Hey guys, thank you so much for participating and thanks to Marta for offering a great prize. There were some interesting answers but it seems the overwhelming favorites are Anita Blake and Sookie Stackhouse. As Marta said, you guys sure like to live dangerously
. Without further ado, the winner is Lidia whose answer was “I would love to be friends with Mary Janice Davidson’s mermaid Fred (Fredericka)”. Just a reminder, The Bride of Casa Dracula is out on September 16, 2008.

If I could have any fictional character as my best friend it would be Stephenie Plum. Shes so funny and always has crazy things going on. Plus her dress sense is so random. I love her family as well. It would be great to go to her house for dinner and meet Grandma Mazur, you’d never know what was going to happen.

I would pick Eve Dallas, from the J.D. Robb series, to be my best friend. She is an amazingly strong women that has overcome many obstacles and risen from the ashes to become a top cop, cherished wife, and devoted friend. Eve is straightforward, determined, generous and no frills. She can be sarcastic( I love her humor) and cynical, but what you see is what you get and she knows the value of real friendship. She is a total caffeine junky (coffee and Pepsi) and she loves chocolate, just like me- I love that she hides her goodies:) She also has this aversion to computers which I can totally relate to.

If I could have any ficthional friend it would be Saint written by Kathryn Smith., 3rd book in the brotherhood of the blood series. He is cunning yet gently, the that he hides form 600 years of being tominted as a vampire, to never let himself know real love, His witty sense of humor is a way to hide the pain, but when there is something that needs to be, done or the one he falling in love with gets hurt, the human side resufaces and only then can you know the saddness he urnes for to be loved.

Anita Blake from Laurell K Hamilton’s series. Because she is so sarcastic and kicks butt! Plus she hangs out with the hottest guys! (even if they are weres and vampires!
)

sookie stackhouse of charlaine harris, how cool would it be, to know what a guy is thinking when you first meet?!
August 31st, 2008 at 7:36 pm
I would probably choose Sookie Stackhouse from the Southern Vampire Series, (dead until dark). she is not only smart and sassy, but very talented. I’d love to have a friend that could read minds, not to mention all the very attractive vampires she knows…i would be a complete fang banger…
August 31st, 2008 at 9:01 pm
I would love to have Rachel Morgan from Kim Harrison’s books. She is smart, sexy, brave and funny. She also would do anything to help out one of her friends, even if it would get her in a jam!
August 31st, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Sometimes I think Miki Kendrick in Shelly Laurenston’s ‘Go Fetch” is my BFF or at least my long lost twin sister. Maybe it’s being under 5 feet tall myself, with I might add a complete addiction to males who are at least 6 feet 4 inches tall, but I do admit I have issues with control… I like to have it much as Miki does.
She’s brilliant and rejoices in it, a little crazy, with a tongue like a rapier, independent and quite capable of handling the bad guys on her own. Chronically hyper, addicted to her laptop, champion of video games, according to the hero, Miki adds a whole new dimension to the concept of mean.
But her relationships with her friends, Sara and Angelina are so warm and supportive and caring, I wish I was one of her friends too!

I would pick Anita Blake, (before she got too many lovers) she is funny and totaly kicks butt! She doesn’t take crap from anyone and is loyal to the bone.
August 31st, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Without any comment – Jenks from Kim Harrison’s books. When he got to be materialized to a real person, it just added to his already “Little Hunk” personalitiy!! I fell ni love with him, his wife and all his mischeivious kids!!

If I could have a fictional character as a best friend, it would have to be Acheron Parthenopaeus (hope i spelled that right). The guy is a god (literally), he can do anything he wants and the guy is the most uber-sexiest man alive!!!!
September 1st, 2008 at 1:13 am
It would be the coolest to have Anita Blake as friend. She is like me, but the part that i keep in my head. lol She kicks butt and has the best comebacks and threats ive ever read. ; )
September 1st, 2008 at 2:37 am
If I had a choice of who I would like to be friends with it would be Anita Blake. She is courageous and is there for her friends. And she has a bad ass attitude. I also would not mind to be friends with Acheron. He has a large heart and doesn’t give his heart away lightly. He could teach you alot about Greek mythology, something that I absolutely love, as he has lived a long time. I’d be able to meet alot of Gods. I would love to see Simi come off his arm. He is considerate and kind and would be there for you at a drop of a hat.
September 1st, 2008 at 3:58 am
I would choose Sookie Stackhouse from Charlaine Harris’ wonderful Southern Vampire series. She likes cats, seems to not be hung up on housework (vampires have to keep cleaning it after bloodbaths at her house) She has a “sorta” normal everyday job. She’s not rich. We both have brothers who are our only family. And I think she needs a better best friend to ground her a bit more. My mind is an open book. Come on over and read it, Sookie.
September 1st, 2008 at 4:22 am
Definitely Anita Blake/Laurell K Hamilton’s first character. I love her strength and her honesty about herself. No delusions of grandeur or perfection with this lady.
September 1st, 2008 at 4:27 am
It is very difficult for me to pick just one BFF!!! I would love to hang out with girls like Kimberly Raye’s “Lil Marchette”, Gerry Bartlett’s “Glory St.Claire”, Mark Henry’s “Amanda Feral” and so many others! But I think that my pick for my Best (fictional) Friend would be Betsy Taylor from MaryJanice Davidson’s “Queen Betsy” series! She is funny, goofy, fashion conscious, loyal to her friends, and cares for her shoes above all else
)! Also, I wouldn’t mind meeting Eric Sinclair!
)
I just have to throw in that I would love to hang out with Dakota Cassidy’s “Accidental Friends” girls, Marty, Nina and Wanda! That is one of the funnniest series that I’ve read!
Thanks for the chance to tell you about my fictional BFF’s!!!
September 1st, 2008 at 5:10 am
I think I would chose Elena Michaels from Kelley Armstongs
women of the otherworld books. She is the only female werewolf and she kicks butt she is smart and she has a fabulous mate . If I was going to chose a bff she would be it.
September 1st, 2008 at 5:31 am
I would like to be friends with Aisling Grey from Katie MacAlister’s Guardian novels. She is a loyal friend, she’s cool under pressure and she has a demon dog named Jim.
September 1st, 2008 at 8:13 am
Anita Blake is the one fictional character I can think of who I’d like to have around as my best friend, sure trouble seems to follow her around but she can kick its ass. Plus she has so many gorgeous men around her, I might be able to get some of the ones she doesn’t
September 1st, 2008 at 8:14 am
Stephanie Plum is #1! She’s funny, loyal, brave, adventerous, open minded, and constantly surrounded by hot men. Being her BFF would never be boring!
September 1st, 2008 at 8:16 am
I love Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan, she’s real, funny, quirky and full of life. She would make a great friend. Look how wonderful she is with Ivy even though Ivy keeps trying to bite/seduce her and her friendships with Jenks and David even Cerri are amazing. She takes care of her friends, that’s someone I’d like to have around.
September 1st, 2008 at 12:33 pm
Hi, everyone! Vicky’s asked a great question and I’d have a tough time answering it. One of my choices would be from Katy Munger’s hilarious mystery series. I’d like to know her heroine, the down-to-earth, brave, and somewhat trashy Casey Jones. She seems like a helluva gal — just the person to get you into danger and yank you out of it.
I’d also love to be friends with Rev. Clare Fergusson from Julia Spencer-Fleming’s terrific novels. She’s smart, decent, sensible, courageous and she would always give incredible advice and have a hot pot of coffee and some good scotch around.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:08 pm
I would love to be friends with Mary Janice Davidson’s mermaid Fred (Fredericka). Fred is the most anti-social character I have ever read. All she wants is to be left alone to do her job. However, she keeps getting involved in the lives and events of people around her, much to her dismay and downright aggravation. She is hysterically funny in that she doesn’t act or react to anything or anyone the way we have been taught. But somehow she ends up doing the right thing and making me laugh out loud no matter where I am. She is crabby, unfriendly, loyal and trust-worthy. Once she is on your side you have it made.
I hope everyone that enjoys a good belly laugh picks these books up. You will not be disappointed.
Enjoy!
Lidia

Umm….I was going to say Sookie Stackhouse but I changed my mind. I’d want to hang around with Harry Dresden of the Dresden Files. He is so funny and he could probably make me a spell which would make me lose 30lbs. instantly.
September 1st, 2008 at 7:04 pm
I would choose Acheron from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters series. He is the most loyal and considerate man ever.
What is a best friend? Ash is there when needed and will stand by your side no matter what. He will watch your back, take time to listen and he is not afraid to tell you the truth even when you don’t want to hear it.
September 2nd, 2008 at 3:01 am
I’d have to choose Anita Blake from the Laurell K. Hamilton series. She’s sarcastic, intelligent, she has curves (which wouldn’t make my OWN currves stand out quite so bad!) and she has the HOTTEST of HOTTIES around her all the time.
Yum!

V. I. Warshawski from author Sara Paretsky.
She is so driven and is a woman I admire.
She is a gritty Chicago private investigator who is always getting into something.
September 2nd, 2008 at 4:17 am
I would like to have Anita Blake for my friend!! She has gone through so much but still, manages to be strong not only for herself but for her lovers and friends. I love how she can kick butt, but at other times remain calm. She has overcome many obstacles, but always comes out on top!! I would love to have her as my back-up should the need arise to kick ass.
September 2nd, 2008 at 8:04 am
I would choose to have Anita Blake as my best friend. She is tough but has compassion, surrounded by tons of eye candy, is willing to back up what she says and never leaves anyone behind.
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:07 pm
ANITA BLAKE handsdown! She is a total Supe magnet! She has the Master of the City and the A-dog plus every other shifter’s numero uno on a leash. Being friends with her you would meet the hottest, most powerful beings alive! I think it would be absolutely amazing to hang with her and perhaps, just maybe hook up with some of those amazingly hot, stipper, vamp, hungry animals! I am so in……
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Or how about Acheron? OK. An amazingly hot, powerful dude who really needs to be loved……and can reciprocate plus! He definitely needs a shelter from his stormy life what with all of those gods, demigods, half brother, Artemis, mommy dearest and all of those dark hunters needing so much from him all of the time. I would love to “soothe” poor Acheron. If your best friend is a Chirante Demon then he really needs someone like me to make him laugh and enjoy his life a little bit more with fewer problems and no strings attached!
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:57 pm
You guys are all more daring than me! Anita Blake would definitely bring the danger and I’m a chicken.
I am really fond of Sookie Stackhouse and I love Charlaine Harris’s series. But I’d have to wear a lead-lined baseball cap so she wouldn’t read my thoughts. I definitely want to hang out at Merlotte’s.
September 2nd, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Ok…maybe i’m a little wierd but it would have to be John Matthew from the JR Ward books. I just love him. He’s so sweet and kind hearted. He just seems like he would always have my back
Plus friendship could lead to dating hehe
September 2nd, 2008 at 9:41 pm
I can see myself hanging out with Sookie Stackhouse from the Southern Vampire Series by Charlaine Harris because she just seems really down to earth. She’s relatable (okay, I don’t have lots guys, especially not shifter, vampire, or werewolf guys) waiting for me to choose one of them at my feet but she’s funny, she’s tough and she’d keep me on my toes with all the situations she gets into. We’d be total BFFs. LOL
September 3rd, 2008 at 6:14 am
If i could have any fictional character as my best friend it would be Cat Crawford becuz like me we have alot in common with our love for Vampires and sexy men. She is also not afraid to stand up to anyone. She is half Vampire half human andwho doesn’t want that power for themselves she could get hurt and not die becuz she is already half dead. And Milargo Del Santos too becuz she is a spicy latina just like me and we don’t take crap from neone. We would get along perfectly except for maybe our latina attitudes.
September 4th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
I think Laura Caxton from the books 13 Bullets and 99 Coffins by David Wellington. I mean she is powerful and courageous. even though Arkley almost got her killed multiple times, she stuck through till the end. She is definitely a woman i wouldn’t mind hanging out with. She is just like the definition of pure bravery and stupidity. She even tracked down a vampire all on her own because Arkley could hardly do anything with his badly wounded body. I think the only difference other than age and appearance would be a little personality clashes, but that would make her awesome! she is like the awesomest person ever. I would be honored to be her best friend. (I don’t care if she is a les, she is still awesome)
September 5th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
I think it would be between two characters. Mercedes Thompson from the Mercedes Thompson series by Patricia Briggs and Alexandra Keller from the Darkyn novels by Lynn Viehl. They are both no nonsense kick butt characters, who still have an air of humility about them. They are also the type of women who would help anyone out, especially their friends, whenever, and whatever they need, and not even ask questions about it. They also bring an air of humor with them, however dire the situation may be. And they usually say something at the wrong time, which can get them into more trouble than it is worth… This being the quality I can relate the most with.
September 5th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Sookie from Charlaine Harris books. She’s loyal and is ready to take her earrings off and fight when needed (re: Tara, Bill), is open to new things and people from “different cultures” (re: vamps, Weres, shapeshifters), and let friends stay at her home when they need to get away/hide out. Plus, I would get to admire Eric ….from a safe distance.
September 5th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
There are so many cool, kick butt characters out there, its hard to pick one. But since this contest requires one choice it would have to be, ummm, welllll, dang this is hard. Anita Blake from LKH. Tough, pretty lady who kicks ass.
September 6th, 2008 at 9:45 am
Hmm I would have to either pick “Zarek” from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Darkhunters or “Zsadist” from J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood because they are loyal and they both can kick ass and not to mention they are hot.
September 6th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
I would choose Anne Rice’s Lestat – he’s handsome, smart, well-dressed and, most importantly, has a wicked sense of humor. He’s the first vampire that completely captivated me…from the first time I “met” him in Interview with the Vampire, and he continued to do so throughout the series.
and…I’m sure he’d just love reading this post, the gorgeous egomaniac!!
