I’ve got an extra copy of Katie MacAlister’s new paranormal Up in Smoke (Silver Dragons, Book 2). Up in Smoke is the continuation of May and Gabriel’s story. If you like her vampire books, you’ll definitely like her dragons series.
Along with the book I’ll be giving away a Hide-a-Book cover of the winner’s choice. To toss your name in the hat, simply leave a comment below and tell me who your favorite paranormal author is. Be sure to enter your email address where indicated so that I can contact you. You must enter by midnight, October 23, 2008.

No doubt these days that there are quite a few paranormal authors who are praised for their supposed ‘talent’ and have gained more popularity than they could ever imagine. However within this list (which include authors such as Stephenie Meyer, Anne Rice, and Laurell K. Hamilton) are authors that are less ‘worthy’ of so much attention and perhaps are more a ‘hype’ than anything. There is one author though, that particularly intrigues me.
Although Mary Janice Davidson is by no means a completely original author, she does have quite a few original ideas and concepts. For example, in the novel ‘Undead and Unappreciated’, based on the protagonist’s (the queen vampire) step-sister, who turns out to be the Devil’s daughter- how she explained the story of how that came to be was absolutely priceless.
The most delightful aspect about this author is not that she writes a classic vampire falls-in-love-with-normal-girl story, but rather it’s the fact that she manages to take classic, stereotypical plot lines and make them truly unique. She then manages to continue a series, without losing the interest of the reader as she goes along. Her characters are witty and smart, while retaining the archetypes that we all recognize. We are glad that she is neither kind nor forgiving to them, as that would ultimately be rather… boring.
All in all, Davidson is by far one of the more interesting paranormal authors of our time. We fall in love with her style, dialogue, and characters as she whisks us away to another world that is much like ours …but you know- sexier.

J.R. Ward is my all time favorite paranormal author. I get so swept up in her BDB books. I hope she never stops this series.
