Review by Vicky London

Daria Moran is an agent for the Allied Bureau of Investigation. She is obsessed with obtaining vengeance and justice on the vampire who betrayed her. Daria is willing to do whatever it takes to make her former lover, Christopher Sante, pay for the murders of her friend and co-workers. Even if that means becoming a vampire herself.

Alejandro Martinez, a vampire and agent of the Governing Body of the Chosen, will be joining her in the operation to take down Sante at his Sanctuary for vampires. Daria and Alejandro shared a steamy night of passion before he was “chosen” and neither of them have forgotten it. But Daria will do everything in her power to keep the sexy vampire from distracting her from her mission. Their job is to infiltrate Sanctuary and rescue the kidnapped daughter of Richard Templeton, head of the New Covenant Church and leader of the anti-vampire movement. But things are not as they seem and as the danger mounts, Daria and Alejandro are forced into an intimacy that quickly becomes all too real and intoxicating. In order for Daria to find peace she will have to learn to trust in a new love and to become that which she hates the most.

Sometimes I have a hard time with books that take in place in an alternate universe, as well as another planet. If there’s too much detail about the world it overtakes the story, too little and you’re left wondering what the author is talking about. Bast manages a good balance so that you understand the basics but aren’t overwhelmed with useless info.

I also found the story to be very nuanced. The “bad guy” Sante is shown to be a person who has a great capacity for love and kindness. He’s not just the evil murderer but a guy who cares about creating a safe haven for other vamps and who is truly remorseful at betraying Daria. Yet at the same time he has another side that revels in the thrill of the kill which makes him much more interesting than a one dimensional character. Overall I think it was a decent story. The Chosen Sin is red hot and Bast doesn’t shy away from explicit scenes. If you like books by authors Angela Knight and Emma Holly, then you will really enjoy this one.
