Review by Vicky London
Angels’ Blood is the first book in the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh. Nalini is best know for her successful Psi-Changeling paranormal series which was a breakout hit in 2007. Angels’ Blood is her first foray into an intense and dramatic world of angels and vampires.
Here’s the Cover blurb:
“Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she’s the best—but she doesn’t know if she’s good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear—failure is not an option…even if the task is impossible.
Because this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.
The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other…and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn’t destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break… ”
What I find so fascinating about this series is the angels rather than the vampires. Angels create the vampires and in bestowing the gift of eternal life require the new vampires to enter into a century of servitude. These angels are not the traditional biblical angels but ancient terrifying creatures with immense god-like powers. They rule over humans with a sometimes iron fist. Elena’s relationship with Raphael is a juxtaposition between strength and weakness, fear and desire. What they believe and know about themselves will change radically as their worlds are torn apart and remade. I very much want to read more about these two, along with this world the author has created.
