Review by Vicky London
Legend has it that Armand Argeneau is a killer in the bedroom . . .
But with all three of his late wives meeting unfortunate and untimely ends, is this sexy immortal a lover or a murderer? That’s what Eshe d’Aureus intends to find out. As an enforcer, it’s her job to bring rogue vampires to justice, even if the rogue in question makes her blood race red hot.
Armand knew she was trouble the moment Eshe roared into town on her motorcycle, clad in tight black leather. She claims she’s hiding from dangerous fiends, though he suspects something more. But after three wives who’ve all had trouble remaining, well, undead, Armand is reluctant to open his heart again. Then strange accidents start to happen, each deadlier than the last, and Armand realizes he may not have much time to prove he’s a lover, not a slayer.
I had quite a few problems enjoying this book. First, the plot of the novel was weirdly convoluted and the only reason it worked was because of the foolishness of the characters. Armand has lost three wives to “accidents” that he never questions. I tried explaining the plot to a friend and it just came out sounding so ridiculous. Plots that are advanced by the stupidity of characters really turn me off. Second, Eshe referred to herself twice as a “bitch in heat”. That is just so not sexy, in fact it’s the opposite of sexy and is not a mental picture I want to have while reading a romance. Third, the author kept using the ridiculous and grammatically incorrect phrase: “if you think that, you’ve got another think coming”. Seriously? Was this book even edited or is the author just trying to be clever? Either way it falls flat. Layered on top of all that is the lack of believability of Eshe and Armand falling instantly in love with each other simply because they are lifemates. Instant lust, yes. Instant love, no thanks. I find it much more interesting and satisfying when an author takes the time to let us see why the character come to love each other.
Born to Bite is the 13th book in the Argeneau vampire series. If you’d like more information about he series or would like to read an excerpt of the book, click here.

This is one of THE authors and THE series that got me hooked on paranormals, one of only about 4 auto buys without reading the reviews that I make. I’m so looking forward to it, although I don’t love the Rouge Hunters arch nearly as much as the earlier books, I’ve been unable to let this series go. As you didn’t rate it, did you not finish it? Is there still hope that I won’t be disappointed?

I’m with Lisa R. I love the Argeneau family and will buy any of Sands books without even seeing a review. I do hope when I get to read this one that I like it better than what I read in your review. If not, I will be so-o-o disappointed.
